What is Dates Makhana Kheer?

Oh my goodness, today’s recipe is literally one of my all-time favorites but with a healthy twist, making it sugar-free!

Diwali or for that matter, any festival is incomplete without mithai/sweets which also means we end up stuffing ourselves with tons of sweets and comfortfood.

So, I wanted to share one of our family’s favorite recipes, made with natural sweets, and it literally tops our list -> ‘Dates Makhana Kheer’ ❤️

It’s simply divine, takes less than 15 minutes to make, and has a thick rabri like texture (you can add more milk to thin it).

” Combining the nutritional richness of makhana (fox nuts) and the natural sweetness of dates, this dessert offers a delicious way to indulge without compromising on health “

Makhana / Phool Makhana / Foxnuts: is an Indian SUPERFOOD, that has so many health benefits besides being low carb, low fat, nutrient rich and more.

Dates: as we all know, is rich in fiber, provides natural sweetness, filled with antioxidants and has many many nutrients benefits.

Pro Tips for Making the Perfect Dates Makhana Kheer

Dairy-Free Option:
For those who are lactose intolerant or following a vegan diet, you can substitute dairy milk with almond milk or coconut milk. These options not only make the dessert lighter but also add a unique flavor.

Adjust Sweetness:
If you prefer a sweeter kheer, you can add more dates or a natural sweetener like stevia or monk fruit. Avoid using refined sugar to maintain the diabetic-friendly quality of the dish.

Fasting Recipe:
This kheer is ideal for fasting as it uses minimal ingredients and no refined sugar, making it light yet filling.

Consistency:
If you prefer a thicker consistency, simmer the milk for a longer time. For a thinner kheer, you can add extra milk.

Customize with Spices:
While cardamom is the traditional choice, you can also add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for an extra layer of flavor and warmth.
