When the summer sun gets intense and mangoes start showing up in every Indian household, you know it’s time to bring out the freshest, easiest, and most flavorful summer mango recipes.
And nothing screams summer more than a vibrant, spicy-tangy bowl of Indian style mango salad, also called ‘Vegan Indian Mango Salad’ or ‘Healthy Mango Salad’
This chaat masala mango salad is not just a dish, it’s an emotion for many of us who’ve grown up enjoying ripe mangoes sprinkled with masala or served with salt and chili powder.
This salad hits all the cravings and is equally nostalgic in every bite.
I’ve used a good mix of fresh, crispy, and seasonal summer veggies in this salad, but you can totally customize it, as per your needs.
Quick & easy: Ready in just 10 minutes!
Healthy & refreshing: No cooking needed.
Vegan & gluten-free: Naturally fits a variety of diets.
Whether you’re looking for an easy mango chaat, a vibrant salad for your summer get-togethers, or simply a way to enjoy those ripe mangoes in a desi way, this recipe has your name written all over it.
Indian Mango Salad Ingredients:
The beauty of this Indian chaat-style mango salad lies in how a few simple ingredients come together to create a flavor-packed dish. Here’s what you’ll need:
1. Ripe Mangoes
Opt for firm yet juicy mangoes like Alphonso, Kesar, or Badami. You want mangoes that hold their shape but are sweet and juicy—perfect for a salad.
2. Cucumber
Adds that cooling crunch which balances the sweetness and spice of the mango and masala.
3. Onion (optional but recommended)
Thinly sliced red onions give the salad a savory bite and make it feel more filling.
4. Chaat Masala & Seasonings
This is the game changer. A blend of tangy, salty, and slightly spicy flavors, chaat masala turns a simple fruit salad into a street-style Indian chaat.
5. Lime Juice
Adds freshness and acidity to balance the sweetness of the mango.
6. Fresh Mint and Coriander
These herbs lift the salad, making it feel light and summery.
7. Seeds Mix (optional)
For extra crunch. Highly recommended if you’re serving this as a party appetizer or starter.
—————
Step 1 – Make the Salad Dressing
Take a medium-sized bowl and add honey and water in it.
Add the Chaat Masala and seasoning.
Add thinly chopped mint, lemon juice, and give it all a good mix.
Keep this dressing in the refrigerator to chill.
Step 2 – Chop All the Ingredients:
Peel the mangoes and make large bite size slits (horizontal and vertical) all over the mango.
Then chop them into bite-sized pieces and discard the chunky seed part.
Now, chop the cucumber, bell pepper, and onion into bite-sized pieces.
Thinly chop the mint
Step 3 – How to Make the Indian Style Mango Salad:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the mango, cucumber, onion, and seed mix.
Sprinkle in the chaat masala and drizzle the chilled dressing.
Toss everything gently. Add chopped mint and some more seed mix on top for crunch.
Serve immediately, or chill for 15-20 minutes in the refrigerator.
Serving Suggestions & Tips:
This chaat masala mango salad makes a perfect side for:
Summer BBQs or potlucks
As a topping over papdi or crackers for bite-sized starters
A quick afternoon snack or light lunch
Alongside Indian meals like dal-chawal or grilled tandoori dishes
You can also wrap it in a roti or serve it with puffed rice for a light mango bhel chaat variation!
Important & Useful Tip:
- Since this is a fresh fruit salad, it’s best eaten immediately. If you want to prep in advance, chop the ingredients and store them separately. Toss them together just before serving.
- You can use any mango of choice if the Indian variety is not available.
- You can skip chaat masala (if unavailable around you and add an extra squeeze of lemon juice and some white vinegar).
- You can use nuts instead of seeds if need be.
With the temperature already predicted to cross 45 degrees in India, cooking heavy meals can feel overwhelming.
Hence, this no-cook, 15 minutes mango salad with chaat masala is light on the stomach, but still packed with enough flavor to satisfy your taste buds.
Plus, mangoes are rich in vitamins A and C, while cucumber and lime help cool your system.
Chaat masala also aids digestion, making this salad not just tasty but also functional for summer wellness.
It’s also fuss-free, budget-friendly, and totally Instagram-worthy too.
So next time you spot those golden mangoes at the market, skip the smoothies and try this salad instead.
Your taste buds will thank you 🙂
