Now, to cook, we can use both frying or baking / air frying option and here are the details:
Steps to Fry the Rolls:
Steps to Bake or Air Fry the Gujiya Rolls:
•Preheat the oven/air fryer to 180°C (350°F).
•Brush the rolls with ghee or oil and bake for 10-12 minutes until golden and crispy (turn them on the other side after 5-6 minutes for an even golden crust and cooking).
✔ Use Soft Dates – They blend well and naturally sweeten the filling. Medjool or Kimia dates are a great option.
✔ Use Fresh Dry Fruits – Fresh dry fruits guarantee an enhanced taste and texture. You can roast the dry fruits slightly if they are older. This helps them regain freshness.
✔ Seal the Rolls Properly – Use milk or water to prevent them from opening while cooking them.
✔ Brush with Ghee for a Traditional Taste – It adds richness and keeps the rolls crispy.
✔ Make-Ahead Friendly – Prepare the filling in advance and assemble the rolls when needed.
1. You can use homemade whole wheat thin wrappers or phyllo pastry sheets as a healthier alternative.
2. Store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature or refrigerate for up to a week. Reheat in an air fryer or oven before serving.
3. Since they are sweetened naturally with dates and contain no refined sugar, they are a better choice for diabetics. However, portion control is recommended.
4. This recipe doesn’t use any ghee or butter, hence its perfect for vegans too.
These Sugar-Free Gujiya Rolls are a delicious, healthy, and easy-to-make festive dessert that will satisfy your sweet cravings without refined sugar.
With a crunchy exterior and a naturally sweet, nutty filling, they are the perfect addition to your Holi or Diwali or other celebrations.
