It was a 2:00 am drive to the emergency that changed our lived forever…..tensions were at peak and our heart was pounding louder for everyone to listen as we pushed my mom within the emergency room.
Thankfully, due to correct-timely diagnosis and treatment, we came back home happy and smiling 🙂
Hello Everyone, instead of sharing some easy healthy recipe today, I actually wanted to share the reason, why we started ‘Healthy-Lighter Family Fav Recipe’ blog….
It was the fact that Mom was suffering from ‘Coronary Artery Disease’ also known as CAD. After being diagnosed, we not only changed our eating habit but also our entire lifestyle.
CAD occurs when blood vessels of the heart become narrow, making it difficult for blood to flow to the heart or blockage of one or more arteries that supply blood to the heart.
Apart from it being the most common type of heart disease, it’s also the leading cause of death in the United States in both men and women.
Before, we go ahead here are some of the common symptoms that people with CAD may experience:
While people should absolutely take steps to prevent CAD, the primary goal is to clear arteries that have become “clogged” in order to restore blood flow to the heart.
So in our quest to learn more about CAD, we came across this video from ‘Cooking Cardiologist‘ (below), which details about CAD and healthy recipe.
Now that you know what CAD is, here are important tips to manage CAD with a mixture of lifestyle changes and treatment options, with medications often being chosen as the first line of treatment.

Apart from all these tips, here’s what you can do to make the everyday healthy change in your cooking habits or as we call it ‘Easy Heart Healthy Cooking Tips’:
1- Eat Healthy Regular Meals: don’t skip meals, nor eat less or more than needed as per one’s prescribed diet.
2- Swap heavy/oily/extremely sugary ingredients with these heart-healthy swaps:
3- Use proper utensils: don’t use too old or extremely scrubbed pots/pans as they may leave chemical/metallic residue.
4- Eat more Vegetables + Fruits: They are filled with heart-healthy nutrients that not only keeps us full but provides the much-needed minerals+vitamins.
5- Eat the Rainbow: Eat colorful veggies+fruits to fill up the body with needed antioxidants to fight free-radicals.
6- A little Healthy Dessert goes a Long Way: this is our favorite tip as who doesn’t love dessert and that doesn’t mean that it has to be extremely heavy or over-the-top.
Make light changes – use yogurt instead of creams and fresh fruits and even dark chocolate.
So as we wrap up, watch this video from Cooking Cardiologist for a delicious recipe and CAD tips. As I did mention in the beginning, we got the right treatment on time hence everything turned out to be all right.
So always keep an eye on any CAD symptoms mentioned above and be thorough in your Doctor’s appointment as ‘Prevention is the Key’.
