French toast, a classic breakfast dish enjoyed around the world, has taken on a delightful twist with the infusion of Indian flavors.

This fusion creation combines the simplicity of French toast with the aromatic spices and rich flavors of Indian cuisine, resulting in a dish that tantalizes the taste buds and offers a unique culinary experience.

Available at many cafes or street food joints/shops, it’s a go-to for many, especially on the run or even a part of lavish brunch on weekends.

Savory Indian Style French Toast Ingredients:

  • 4 Large Eggs
  • 6 Slices of Bread – You can use bread of your choice
  • 1/4 Cup Milk – Warm
  • 1 Small Onion – thinly chopped
  • ¼ Cup Boiled Potatoes – thinly chopped
  • 1 Green chili – thinly chopped (adjust according to spice preference)
  • 4 Tbsp Cheese –  Thinly Grated (I’m using parmesan, use any cheese as per taste and availability)
  • 2 Tbsp Chili Flakes – Use as per taste
  • ¼ Cup Oil – For Sautéing

Spices:

  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 Tsp Red chili powder – optional, use as per taste
  • 1/2 Tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt – Use as per taste

Serving Suggestion:

Tools:
1 Large nonstick pan
1 Large Bowl
Electric Whisker OR Blender
 
 
Method:
  1. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs for 2 min, add milk, and whisk for another minute.
  2. Add onion, green chilies, potatoes, cheese, and spices to the egg mixture and whisk for another minute till everything is well combined.
  3. Heat a large nonstick pan/skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add 1 tsp oil, and reduce the heat to low.
  5. Now, take a slice of bread, soak it in the egg mixture on both sides and place it on the heated pan/skillet.
  6. Let it cook over low-medium heat for 2 minutes.
  7. Turn the slice to another side for 2 minutes and when both sides are golden brown, transfer to the serving plate.
  8. Serve Hot.
